Battlefield 5’s Next Update Will Have Its Final New Content

0

In April, Battlefield V developers DICE promised that the game would receive one last big update, which will arrive in June as Update 7.0. The latest “This Week in Battlefield V” update on Reddit confirms that the June content update is coming, and will be the last big one for the game–but a comment made by one developer also clears up some potential misconceptions around the game’s path forward. A comment from Braddock512–the game’s community manager–clarifies that while there will not be new content coming to the game, this is not the “final” update. “It’s the last content update–but we plan on dropping fixes and there will be the Community Games Update to add more tools to the feature,” he writes. “There will be new/returning playlists when Update 7.0/June Update drops.” While major updates are ending, and players should perhaps not expect anything too major after Update 7.0, it sounds like the game won’t become static and unchanging after the update.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Sludge Life, A Brand New Game, Is Free On Epic Game Store Right Now

0

A new game from publisher Devolver Digital is launching on the Epic Games Store today, May 28–and it won’t cost a cent. The game, Sludge Life, has been on our radar since it was announced for its wild sense of style and mellow graffiti gameplay. It’s also full of cat butts, and features a dedicated button for farts, as all games should. The game involves exploring a small island on a planet with a serious sludge problem. You play as Ghost, a tagger looking to move up the graffiti food chain, and a lot of the game involves committing vandalism. There are no specific objectives given to you, but there are three potential endings to be discovered. The game’s launch trailer is below, and once you’re done watching it you can jump onto its Epic Games Store page and download the game for free.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Xbox Series X: Phil Spencer Says You Can’t Appreciate The True Power Of Next-Gen Yet

0

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has acknowledged that it’s been challenging to demonstrate the true leap that the Xbox Series X will provide over the Xbox One. In Reggie’s new podcast, Spencer said one of the most defining characteristics of next-gen games is how they “feel” with faster and more stable frame rates. It’s not possible to demonstrate this with videos, Spencer said. And with physical events canceled or postponed due to COVID-19, Microsoft is facing a new dilemma in trying to communicate the appeal of faster frame rates. This is a new challenge, Spencer said, because for previous console transitions throughout history, the power of new systems was immediately apparent with better graphics. “One of the things I’ve talked about publicly … but it’s hard to come across, is the way it feels to play games on a box where frame rates are higher, frame rates are more stable,” Spencer said. “The fluidity of it, showing that in video form, is just impossible. How do you show how something feels?”Continue Reading at GameSpot

GTA 6 Release Window Might Still Be A Few Years Away [Update]

0

Grand Theft Auto VI is presumed to be the next title in development at Rockstar Games, and now an SEC filing by publisher Take-Two Interactive might indicate that it won’t be ready until 2023. [Update: Take-Two has contradicted the takeaway in a statement to GamesIndustry.biz, saying the table only reflects marketing commitments for third-party companies and not its internal projects. As a result, this wouldn’t indicate any potential marketing spend on a new Rockstar game.] A 10-K filing by Take-Two, which includes presumed marketing spend for the next five years, shows that the company is planning to spend over $89 million in its 2023 financial year. This period starts on April 1 2023 and ends on March 31 2024, with double the marketing budget than any other year during this five-year stretch by. According to analyst Jeff Cohen of investment firm Stephens (and reported by VentureBeat), the budget is likely for Grand Theft Auto VI. Despite this, Cohen points to previous 10-K filings by Take-Two where the marketing budget accurately predicted the launch windows of games before their announcement, with Red Dead Redemption 2 being the most recent example. Although timeline can change over a five-year forecast, it seems plausible that Take-Two’s current plan is to launch the next Grand Theft Auto installment a decade after Grand Theft Auto V.Continue Reading at GameSpot

New Call Of Duty Is Reportedly Black Ops: Cold War, Reveal Coming Soon

0

As has become tradition with the annual Call of Duty series, this year’s game has apparently leaked ahead of its official announcement. While Activision has already confirmed a new Call of Duty is coming this year, it hasn’t shared any details whatsoever. However, according to a tweet that has since been corroborated by Eurogamer, this year’s game will be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. This would be the fifth main game in the sub-series, and it will apparently be going back to the time period that made the games famous. What we don’t know, however, is how closely it will follow the original game, or if it will be a completely new beast. The Black Ops Cold War name first appeared on Twitter by leaker Okami13, and Eurogamer has since reported it’s heard the same news from its sources. This means that much like 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, developer Treyarch is going back to where Call of Duty: Black Ops started–a stark change from the future-based warfare the Black Ops series traded in with its third and fourth installments. The Cold War setting has already been teased in Call of Duty: Warzone, with reported plans for the battle royale to eventually reveal the game in its entirety. Players have found a Cold War spyplane by glitching through walls. The reveal might have tied into the ongoing mystery behind the many vault doors in Warzone currently.Continue Reading at GameSpot

If Found Review – Call Me By My Name

0

A little empathy goes a long way. Especially when it comes to those we seek unconditional love and support from, it can mean the difference between spiralling into a black hole of depression and having the comfort to simply exist free of judgment. It’s one of the many themes If Found so vividly represents in sketchbook-style visual novel form. Through expressive minimalist illustrations, ethereal sound design, sharp writing, and thematic coherence, the chaos and serenity of young adulthood jumps out of its pages for a story that’s heartbreaking, heartwarming, and wholly affecting. With a diary and eraser, we recollect and move past the memories of main character Kasio during a pivotal time in her life. It’s December 1993 in County Mayo of Ireland, and having come back to her small hometown of Achill from Dublin for the holidays, she’s kind of lost. With two higher-education degrees to her name and a lukewarm desire to pursue a Ph.D, she gets the “why don’t you get a decent job and start a decent life” spiel from her mom–a conversation that some of us are all too familiar with. But underlying in this early exchange is a hint that a source of pain comes from her own mom seeing right past who Kasio really is.Tension between Kasio and her mom can paint painful scenes. In real life, not everyone has a place to go, a network to build off and help spring you into adulthood, or even a loving home to fall back on–such is Kasio’s life. As you literally erase each scene on screen with your cursor to move through the day-by-day events, all of her introspections and interactions are laid bare. Erasure is a simple gameplay mechanic, making you peel layers upon layers of vivid memories, and one with powerful implications.Continue Reading at GameSpot
