Halo Retrospective Part 11: Halo Spartan Strike
Halo Retrospective Part 11: Halo Spartan Strike

We are back with more Halo action and once again we need to tell you that our modded Xbox One controllers and our modded Xbox 360 controllers can make you a more badass Spartan than you ever imagined!

Halo Spartan Strike (2015) PC, Mobile

Halo Spartan Assault was a very well received spin off in the Halo community and just a few years later we would get the sequel Spartan Strike. Interestingly there would be no Xbox port of the game and instead, it would just be released on PC and mobile devices. Still, even two years later. Halo fans are asking for this game to be brought to the Xbox One!

Once again it is a twin stick shooter and this time the game is set after the events of Halo 4. You play the role of a Spartan who is leading the attack against the Covenant and Prometheans to lay claim to a Forerunner artifact. The story may not be the most in depth, but it fits in the Halo lore very well.

The game was actually better received on mobile devices, even with the micro transactions and for many, it was a fun game they could pick up while they were on the go, shoot some enemies and then just leave it for a while. Perhaps this quick burst style of gameplay is the reason as to why it has not been brought to the Xbox One as a full console title it may seem a little shallow?

The twin stick shooter style fits the Halo universe pretty well and making a fully fleshed out game in this style is something more than a few Halo fans would be interested in seeing.

Halo Retrospective Part 10: Halo The Master Chief Collection
Halo Retrospective Part 10: Halo The Master Chief Collection

We are back with more Halo action and once again we need to tell you that our modded Xbox One controllers and our modded Xbox 360 controllers can make you a more badass Spartan than you ever imagined!

Halo The Master Chief Collection (2014) Xbox One

While many people will be quick to point out how much of a hard drive hog Halo The Master Chief Collection is. There is a good reason. This packaged contains the remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST, Halo 4 and best of all a brand new remaster of Halo 2. You could argue that they could have thrown in Halo Reach, but for the most part, this is one of the best game collections ever made and a real crown jewel in the Xbox One line up.

The main game that we want to talk about here is Halo 2. The remaster that 343 Industries have done on Halo 2 is one of the best we have ever seen! Honestly, it is very, very underrated and if you think the word that was done on Halo: Combat Evolved was good, this blows that away.

The graphics are phenomenal and not only that, brand new cut scenes were made which flesh out the story a bit more. Like the remaster of the first Halo, you can change the graphics from old to new with the touch of a button and that is a nice touch.

The Master Chief Collection is a game that has to be in every Xbox One owners collection. The launch may have been a little rough in terms of the multiplayer, but this was fixed with a huge patch, but the patch was worth it as it made the game such a complete experience. If you like Halo or even just first person shooters, in general, you simply must own this collection.

Halo Retrospective Part 9: Halo Spartan Assault
Halo Retrospective Part 9: Halo Spartan Assault

While our modded Xbox One controllers and our modded Xbox 360 controllers are perfect for the Halo saga. Today we are looking at a different kind of Halo game!

Halo Spartan Assault (2013) Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC

Halo Spartan Assault is a very different kind of Halo game. Microsoft had success with the other spin off Halo game, Halo Wars. So it was decided to try something different once again with the Halo series. Released in 2013 as a downloadable title, the game offered 25 missions of shooting action.

Halo Spartan Assault is a top down, twin stick, arcade style shooter. Think of Smash TV and you will have a good idea of what to expect. One analog stick controls movement and the other controls your shooting. It can take a little while to get used to, but once you do it is second nature.

The idea of this game is that it is just balls to the wall action, shoot what you can and survive as long as you can. With plenty of power ups to pick up, you really do feel like you are a powerful Spartan as you take down wave after wave of Covenant soldiers.

The story of the game is set between the events of Halo 3 and 4. You play the role of Edward Davis and Sarah Palmer and despite the game being an arcade style shooter. The story is pretty interesting and if you are a fan of Halo, you will get a real kick out of seeing the story fleshed out just that little bit more.

Halo Spartan Assault is a fun game, but a game that not everyone was super into at the time it was released. If you like arcade style shooters then you will have a lot of fun with this. If you just want more FPS action, Halo Spartan Assault may not be for you.

Halo Retrospective Part 8: Halo 4
Halo Retrospective Part 8: Halo 4

Halo is THE Xbox franchise and a game that is certainly made even more awesome with our modded Xbox One controllers and our modded Xbox 360 controllers join us as we look at the start of a new Halo trilogy!

Halo 4 (2012) Xbox 360

343 Industries would once again be at the helm and this was a whole new start in the Halo universe, this is the start of what is known as The Reclaimer trilogy and to say Halo fans were excited is a huge understatement.

Master Chief awakens after being in a state of cryostasis for four years and is on the world of Requiem. Which is a Forerunner world. Here he must fight off a new group of The Covenant and even worse, a whole new evil that has just been awoken! The story was far more cinematic than the previous games and its look to the past of the Halo universe was certainly something many people felt was really cool. Cortana, Master Chief’s AI companion also went through some major changes in this game and seeing her change was really, really cool. Cortana was always an important part of the Halo story, but 343 Industries really did give her more of the limelight than she had have before.

Halo 4 is one of the if not the best looking game on the Xbox 360. The level of detail in the different environments is just staggering. But it is the character models that really blow you away. At first glance, you may think these are actual actors you are looking at!

Halo 4, of course, was huge in terms of its multiplayer. Players loved how there was a real progression in the multiplayer as you would move up to higher ranks, the better you did in the various multiplayer modes.

Most people felt that 343 Industries did an amazing job with Halo 4 and were very excited to see the next installment of the Reclaimer Trilogy.

Halo Retrospective Part 7: Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary

Our modded Xbox One controllers and our modded Xbox 360 controllers are the best way to experience pretty much any first person shooter and we are looking at the origins of one of the biggest first person shooters of all time!

Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary (2011) Xbox 360

By this point, Bungie was gone and it would be 343 Industries who Microsoft would hand the Halo reigns to. This remake of the first game would be their first chance to win over Halo fans.

The first Halo game was a monster hit and this anniversary edition took the original game and remastered it. The visuals were breathtaking and it really did bring the original Halo up to what the other games had become. The visuals really were incredible, but one of the most amazing features of this game was how with the press of a button, you could turn the graphics back to the old style! This was really cool and it was amazing to see just how much work the team had done to improve the visuals.

The game featured the whole campaign and the new visuals really did make you feel like you were experiencing it again for the first time. For the multiplayer, they basically just took what Halo Reach offered and repackaged it here, but to be honest that was not a bad thing at all.

While not a brand new Halo game. Many fans were very happy with Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary. They felt that it was a great first attempt for the folks at 343 Studios and many felt comfortable with the series in their hands.

Halo Retrospective Part 6: Halo Reach
Halo Retrospective Part 6: Halo Reach

Halo is one of the best first person shooters that can be used with our modded Xbox One controllers and our modded Xbox 360 controllers and today we are taking another look back at the history of this awesome series.

Halo Reach (2010) Xbox 360

The Fall Of Reach is one of the major turning points in the Halo lore and for the 6th Halo game, we got this prequel that was set before the events of the first game, Halo Reach. Halo Reach is notable for many reasons, one of which is that this was the last game in the franchise that Bungie would be at the helm for.

The story in Halo Reach follows Nobel Team which is an elite group of Spartans (no Master Chief here) who are on the Planet Of Reach and are trying to figure out what is going on. Players play as Nobel 6 who is trying to uncover what is going one. One of the best things about the story is the comradery you get between the Spartans. The Covenant have invaded the planet and you need to try and stop them. Of course, if you have played Halo before, you know how the story pans out, but that does not matter at all as it is very engrossing and the ending sequence is one of the most dramatic in the entire Halo series and usually the first thing people remember about this game.

Along with the fantastic single player campaign (which you could also play in multiplayer by the way), Halo Reach featured many of the classic modes like capture the flag and team death match along with fun new ones such as headhunter.

Halo Reach is a fantastic game and one of the more under rated in the series if we are being honest. It makes you think just how different the events in the Halo Universe could have been had Nobel Team survived!

Halo Retrospective Part 5 Halo 3 ODST

Our Halo Retrospective continues today with one of the more forgotten games in the series. If you love Halo then be sure to look at our modded Xbox One controllers and our modded Xbox 360 controllers which will make you a more powerful Spartan than you could ever imagine.

Halo 3 ODST (2009) Xbox 360

Halo 3 ODST was the second Halo game to be released in 2009. This was talked about for a very long time before release and at first, it was going to be a DLC add on for Halo 3. The game progressed so much that it had to be released as its very own title, a title that would flesh out the Halo story a little bit.

Halo 3 ODST is actually set during the events of Halo 2 in the city of New Mombasa. You do not play as Master Chief, but as an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper simply known as the rookie. You awake hours after being deployed in the city and in trying to figure out what happened to the rest of your squad you are thrown into the middle of a huge battle. One of the cool things about Halo 3 ODST is the way that when you find a piece of evidence that lets you know what happened to a member of your squad, you actually get to play as them in a flashback mission which fleshes out the story.

Playing as an ODST was a bit different than playing as Master Chief, but for the most part, Halo fans were very happy with what Bungie did with the story. Halo 3 ODST also had a multiplayer disc which featured the maps and modes from Halo 3 as well as a new survival based mode called Firefight.

Halo 3 ODST is a pretty fun game and an interesting side step for the series.

The History Of Gears Of War 4
The History Of Gears Of War 4

Join us for our last part of our History Of Gears Of War series! This game is perfect for our modded Xbox One controllers especially when it comes to taking down horde after horde!

Gears Of War 4 (2016) Xbox One

Gears Of War 4 was the series debut on Xbox One and as of right now it is one of the biggest exclusives that the Xbox One has. This is not a spin off game, it is a follow on from Gears Of War 3, all be it 25 years later.

The Locust and the Lambent threat have been over for years and mankind is living in huge walled cities and is living under martial law from the COG. Some humans rejected the COG’s new rules and live outside of these areas. The game is centered around the son of Marcus Fenix, JD and his squad. The Locust is not quite as dead as humanity thought add to this these huge wind flares (which boast some of the most impressive effects on the Xbox One) and humanity could very well be wiped off the face of Sera!

Gears Of War 4 is a fantastic game. While it introduces us to a new cast of characters. Marcus, Cole, and Baird all come along for the ride. It is the perfect balancing of mixing old with new and it was done very, very well. The game did have a cliffhanger ending, but it only made you want to experience more from this new group of heroes.

The team behind the game, The Coalition spent a lot of time making sure the multiplayer was just right and many gamers agreed that they did a fantastic job and even a year later, Gears Of War 4 has a strong multiplayer community on Xbox Live.

Gears Of War 4 has certainly opened up the series and we are super excited to see what JD and his team are up against next.

The History Of Gears Of War Judgement
The History Of Gears Of War Judgement

You know that when it comes to shooters our modded Xbox One controllers and our modded Xbox 360 controllers can really give you an edge, especially in a game as hard hitting as Gears Of War!

Gears Of War Judgement (2013) Xbox 360

Gears Of War fans did not have to wait long for more Gears Of War action, only this time it would not be about Marcus Fenix!

Gears Of War Judgement was a prequel and it focused on Baird. Who along with Cole Train and two new characters, Sofia Hendrik and Garron Paduk who made up Kilo Squad. The story is pretty interesting in that Baird is actually on trial and the game is told through a series of flashbacks. It was pretty well done, but at the time and especially after the roller coaster that was Gears Of War 3, the story in its narrative and length were not as favorably reviewed as the other games that had come before it.

Each mission has a harder option you can select where you will have some kind of handicap be it having to use a certain weapon or a time limit. This was fun and as each level would see you get a score at the end it did help the replayability.

Multiplayer mode in Gears Of War Judgement was a ton of fun and while it did not reinvent the wheel. OverRun and Free For All as the new game modes were very well received and a nice addition to the returning game modes.

Gears Of War Judgement may not be the most popular game in the series, but it still sold over a million copies and many hard core Gears fans loved being able to delve deeper into the lore.

The History Of Gears Of War 3
The History Of Gears Of War 3

Take down the Horde of Locusts coming your way with our awesome modded Xbox One controllers and our modded Xbox 360 controllers as you look back on the history of Gears Of War with us.

Gears Of War 3 (2011) Xbox 360

Gears Of War 3 was the what many of us thought was the end of this fantastic series and it was the end of this chapter in the story. To say that Gears Of War 3 has an epic story is a huge understatement. It is not just the Locust that is a threat, but the Lambent infection that is spreading all over Sera.

Now, this is a big, loud and bicep pumping action story, but the characters are so well written and voice acted that you really do care about them. You are on a quest to find Marcus Fenix’s father who may hold the key to stop the Locust once and for all. One thing that has to be said is that despite being a story about a macho bunch of guys, Gears Of War 3 has one of the most heart breaking moments of any action game.

The power of the Xbox 360 was used really well to bring this story to life with incredible presentation and set pieces that really did blow us all away and make us feel like we were playing a part in a movie.

As well as having a great campaign, Gears Of War 3 also had a huge selection of multiplayer modes. It was by far one of the most played games on the Xbox 360 and something many people have fond memories of. Epic kept many of the popular game modes all the while adding new ones, new weapons, and more customization options.

Gears Of War 3 is a masterpiece and at the time, we felt it was a great send off for Marcus Fenix and the rest of his squad.

The History Of Battlefield Part 10 Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam
The History Of Battlefield Part 10: Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam

Battlefield is one of the most popular FPS games in the world and a game that our modded PS4 controllers, modded Xbox One controllers and modded PC controllers make even better. Lock and load as we look at the next installment of our history of Battlefield series.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam (2010) PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC

Ok so this is not a whole new game, but rather an expansion of Battlefield Bad Company 2, but many people agree that Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam is one of the best expansions to a first person shooter of all time. It was released in December 2010 and interestingly could be bought in a store in an actual game box. The thing was there was no disc in the box, only a download code!

Set during the Vietnam War, Dice absolutely nailed it. The game featured fun, close quarters combat across five brand new maps with lots of new weapons and 6 new vehicles. They really captured the time period very well and the expansion was a huge success.

Dice really went all out for this. They recorded a ton of new dialogue for the expansion, but best of all was the soundtrack. Dice went above and beyond with the soundtrack securing all kinds of 1960’s music, it is estimated there are around two hours of music in the game! It really does help add to the experience and you could say that even today, Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam has the best soundtrack of any game in the Battlefield series.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam is a fantastic expansion with many people at the time actually preferring this to the original Bad Company 2 multiplayer!

The History Of Battlefield Part 9 Battlefield Bad Company 2
The History Of Battlefield Part 9: Battlefield Bad Company 2

Our modded PS4 controllers, modded Xbox One controllers and modded PC controllers work awesome with the Battlefield games and today we are looking at another gem from the Battlefield franchise.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 (2010) PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC

EA Dice released Battlefield Bad Company 2 in 2010. The way to think of the game is a squad based shooter that is set in the modern day. EA had huge success with the first Bad Company so this game was highly anticipated.

Even after what happened in the first game it is realized that only this team of bad asses can go in and get the job done when a special operative is trapped behind enemy lines. What starts as a search and rescue mission quickly gets out of control and the story takes many twists and turns. The story in Battlefield Bad Company 2 was very well received and many said at the time it was the best in a first person shooter. Each mission had different objectives and you really felt like it was you against the world.

Multiplayer was a ton of fun and new copies of the game came with a VIP pass that would allow access to future DLC. This was a way that EA felt they could combat people buying their games used. Conquest, Rush, Squad Rush and Squad Deathmatch are the four game modes that were included in multiplayer and the squad based gameplay of Battlefield really came into its own and it was one of the most played games of 2010 across all platforms.

The History Of Battlefield Part 8: Battlefield 1943
The History Of Battlefield Part 8: Battlefield 1943

We are back with another installment in our history of Battlefield series! A series of games that you can really dominate if you check out our modded PS4 controllers, modded Xbox One controllers and modded PC controllers.

Battlefield 1943 (2009) PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

The second Battlefield game released in 2009 was the downloadable game, Battlefield 1943 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, a PC version as planned, but was canceled. This at the time was the most popular downloaded game ever!

Players would be either part of the US Marine Corps or the Imperial Japanese Navy. Battlefield 1943 once again featured conquest mode where players would have to battle it out, work as a team and really utilize the class they are playing as to help their squad achieve victory. Once players reached 43 million kills in conquest mode, EA released a new mode called, Air Superiority.

One of the things that made Battlefield 1943 so much fun was that while it felt like a Battlefield game, DICE and EA really streamlined it. There were only three classes and there were only four vehicles. But rather than making the game feel limited, it made it feel must more straightforward and easy to jump into. We would bet that Battlefield 1943 for many people was what hooked them on the series as it was so easy to get into.

Battlefield 1943 was a huge hit and it was actually such a huge hit that in the early days of the game, the servers struggled to keep up with the demand. In 2009 it was the biggest selling downloadable game on Xbox Live and even now many Battlefield fans have fond memories of this game.

The History Of Battlefield Part 7: Battlefield Heroes

The History Of Battlefield Part 7: Battlefield Heroes

Our modded PS4 controllers, modded Xbox One controllers and modded PC controllers are the best way to experience Battlefield 1, but before that see just how the Battlefield series became as big as it is today with our history of Battlefield series.

Battlefield Heroes (2009) PC

2009 would see two Battlefield games released, the first one Battlefield Heroes was unlike anything else in the Battlefield series. This was aimed at a more casual audience and EA hoped that the ease of access and the fact it was free to play would result in bringing more people over to the Battlefield universe. This sounds a great idea in theory, but they also decided to make the game 3rd person!

Despite being in 3rd person, Battlefield Heroes features a kind of conquest mode. The idea is that each time has a set number of lives and flags. The idea is to drain the other team of all their lives while having more flags for your team. The class system from Battlefield was still here all be it in a more simplified and streamlined manner and you could still use vehicles during combat.

The games free to play model started out fair enough with players willing to put the time in actually being able to progress pretty far. But EA got a little greedy and changed the pricing structure of the game. So much that unless you were willing to spend hours and hours, grinding away, you had no choice but to spend real money in order to get better equipment. Despite this by the time EA closed the Battlefield Heroes servers in 215, around 10 million people had played the game.

Battlefield Heroes was an interesting idea and as it lasted so long, people were clearly into it. Perhaps had EA not been so greedy with the pricing model, it could have been even more popular?

Halo Retrospective Part 4 Halo Wars
Halo Retrospective Part 4: Halo Wars

Our modded Xbox One controllers and our modded Xbox 360 controllers are ideal for Halo, one of the best FPS games ever made. But today, we are looking at the first spin off game in the Halo series.

Halo Wars (2009) Xbox 360

Halo Wars was the first of two Halo games released in 2009 and this one was met with some raised eyebrows when the first trailers were shown as it was so different from what fans expected from a Halo game. Ensemble Studios were the team behind this and they were tasked with taking the world of Halo and bringing it into the realm of real time strategy.

Halo Wars did actually have a story and the story was the classic, humans vs covenant and it was brought to life with some truly incredible cut scenes which at the time blew people away. People got really into the story and it was a story that you could play through on your own or with a buddy on Xbox Live.

Multiplayer was also an option. This featured the same kind of real time strategy gameplay as the campaign, but you could play against a friend in local or online battles. You could even play against the AI which was handy to let you know the ins and outs of the game. For many console gamers, this was their very first real time strategy game and many people felt that Ensemble Studios did a good job holding these new players to this kind of games hands.

Halo Wars sold very well, it was the best selling console real time strategy game at the time. It was also a game that was reviewed very well also. In all, it was a great side step for the series and it made many gamers interested in the realm of real time strategy.

Halo Retrospective Part 3: Halo 3

Halo is a game that many people love to use our modded Xbox One controllers and our modded Xbox 360 controllers with and as huge fans of the series, we wanted to look back at the history of Halo!

Halo 3 (2007) Xbox 360

Released in 2007 and the first Halo game on Xbox 360, Halo fans were very excited to finally get back in the saddle as Master Chief once again. This was said to be the last part of this chapter of the Halo story and it was truly epic in its scale. The idea was that both the evil Covenant Empire and the Flood would be put to rest once and for all, but like any good sci-fi story there was a ton of twists and turns along the way. One thing that was really cool about Halo 3 was the way part of the story was set on Earth! It was kind of awesome how this huge intergalactic war would have a huge part of t settled on Earth.

The campaign could be played with up to four players and each player would be a different character, so not everyone would have to play as Master Chief. Thanks to the power of the Xbox 360, Halo 3 had a huge leap in terms of its presentation, it at the time was one of the most impressive looking games on the console. Most people felt that the campaign was far better than what Halo 2 offered and most were pleased with the way things ended.

Multiplayer was awesome and it was one of the biggest games on Xbox Live, with over 1 million people playing in the first 24 hours alone! Halo 3 was a huge success and one of the biggest selling games on the console. For many people, this still is the best game in the entire Halo series!

Halo Retrospective Part 2: Halo 2

Here at Mods “R” Us we love the Halo series and our modded Xbox One are perfect for any Covenant blasting action that you need to do! Join us in our second part of our look back at the Halo series.

Halo 2 (2004) Xbox 360

Fans were just rabid with excitement for Halo 2 in 2004. The game could not have been more heavily hyped and the delay in its release was a real gut punch to many fans who could not wait to play the next adventure in the Master Chief saga.

Halo 2 was a lot grander in its story telling. It was more cinematic and in general had a much larger scale. Interestingly, you did not just play as Master Chief. You also played as Covenant Elite, known as the Arbiter. It was a gutsy move and one Bungie did a great job in keeping under wraps. While many thought this was pretty cool and did add to the Halo lore. Some were disappointed that such a large chunk of the game was dedicated to this. Still while Arbiter controlled the same, he could turn himself invisible and in general, he just had a different feel to Master Chief.

While playing through the story was a lot of fun, the ending was something that split fans back then and it is still hotly debated about to this day. Without spoiling anything, Halo 2 ends on a real cliffhanger. A cliffhanger that fans would have to wait years to be resolved!

Halo 2 really kicked things up a notch with the multiplayer. Many people signed up to Xbox Live just to experience the multiplayer action that Halo 2 offered and when the Xbox 360 first launched the most popular game people were playing online was not an Xbox 360 game, it was Halo 2!

Halo 2 proved that the success of the first game was not a fluke and that Microsoft had a huge franchise on their hands as about this time lots and lots of Halo merch, ranging from t shirts to action figures started to appear.

The History Of Gears Of War Part 2
The History Of Gears Of War Part 2

If there is a game that our modded Xbox One controllers and our modded Xbox 360 controllers are ideal for it is Gears Of War! Check out the second part of our history of Gears Of War series!

Gears Of War 2 (2008) Xbox 360

People were very excited for Gears Of War 2 and for many people, this is the best game in the series. Released in 2008, Microsoft and Epic had a smash hit on their hands with Gears Of War 2.

It was just a better and tighter version of the first game. It had better and smoother controls, the graphics were just phenomenal and the story telling was once again incredible. While on the surface the Gears Of War series appears to be about big meat head soldiers. It is actually very character driven and the relationship between Marcus, Dom, Cole, and Baird is just incredibly well done. Without giving spoilers away the search for Dom’s missing wife is one of the most heartbreaking moments you will ever experience in an action game and the game handles it so well it really does not get the credit it deserves for it.

The story is still the COG trying to put an end to the Locust threat, but the twist is that somehow Marcus Fenix’s father is involved with all of this. This was very interesting, but it was left on a cliffhanger and we would have to wait a few years to get it resolved.

Multiplayer was fantastic, even the campaign could be enjoyed by two players with player two playing as Dom. Gears Of War had lots of fun multiplayer battling action such as Submission, Execution, King Of The Hill and Guardian. It was one of the most played games on Xbox Live in 2008/2009.

The History Of Gears Of War Part 1
The History Of Gears Of War Part 1

Horde mode in Gears Of War is one of the reasons many people are so into our modded Xbox One controllers. We are huge fans of Gears Of War and thought it would be fun to look at all the entries in this epic series!

Gears Of War (2006) Xbox 360

Released a year after the launch of the Xbox 360, Gears Of War was one of the first games that really showed the next generation of game consoles was here. Created by Cliff Bleszinski and Epic Games, Gears Of War as a runaway success and it has become one of the staples of the Xbox world.

Gears Of War is a sci-fi, military shooter where you play the role of Marcus Fenix a hulking badass of a man who was part of the COG. He was in jail for failing to follow orders, but he was released when all hell broke loose as the Locust who were living underground, broke out of their underground habitat and waged war on humanity. For a story that on paper sounds kind of straightforward. Gears Of War has one of the best lore’s of any action game and the voice acting was fantastic, really bringing Marcus, Dom, Baird and the rest of the characters to life.

Gameplay wise, Gears Of War is best described as a cover based shooter. You can run and gun, but most of the time you will be hiding behind objects looking for the right moment to move in closer for an attack, some of the attacks were really gruesome and super cool! Gameplay wise, Gears Of War was very tight and was an incredibly fun experience, with many people loving the single player campaign. Gears Of War also offered multiplayer action, but this was just as Xbox Live was really starting to take off.

The original Gears Of War was a huge deal at the time, selling millions of copies and becoming one of the first must own games for the Xbox 360. It also set the stage for what would become one of the biggest exclusives Xbox would have.

Halo Retrospective Part 1 Halo Combat Evolved
Halo Retrospective Part 1: Halo Combat Evolved

Here at Mods “R” Us one of the most popular games we like to talk about is Halo! That is why we are stating this look back on the history of one of the biggest first person shooter series of all time, Halo!

Halo: Combat Evolved (2001) Xbox

Developed by Bungie, Halo Combat Evolved was a launch game for the original Xbox way back in 2001. You could argue that had the Xbox not launched with Halo, interest in the console would not have been as high as it was.

At this time first person shooters on console were a thing, but many people say Halo is the game that showed how to do them right. It showcased the power of the Xbox and it was a must buy for anyone who picked up an Xbox.

A huge part of what made Halo so popular was the story. Players play the role of Master Chief who is a super strong, genetically enhanced soldier who is Earths major hope of stopping an alien race known as The Covenant from taking over and destroying the galaxy. The game is set on a planet/space station called Halo which is actually a weapon which can be used to wipe out all life in the galaxy. While the story in Halo would get flushed out as the series progressed, Halo: Combat Evolved had many of the elements such as The Flood which would stay as a main part of the Halo lore.

Multiplayer and Halo is something that goes hand in hand these days, but in this original release, multiplayer was only available in split screen, where two players could enjoy the campaign together or via link cables. An enhanced version of the game would be later released on PC which featured new weapons and online multiplayer.

Microsoft struck gold with Halo and to this day it is the franchise that many people associate Xbox with.

The History Of Battlefield Part 14 Battlefield 1
The History Of Battlefield Part 14: Battlefield 1

So we come to the end of our History Of Battlefield series with a game that our modded PS4 controllers, modded Xbox One controllers and modded PC controllers are perfect for!

Battlefield 1 (2016) PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Dice did an incredible job with Battlefield 1. From that very first trailer when people saw that the game was set during World War 1, people were excited as this is a time period that first person shooters have neglected.

The story in Battlefield 1 was very well done. You play as six different characters with each one having their own war story. Each character is set in a different area, for example, France, UK and Italy to name a few. It was just so epic in scope and featured some truly incredible set pieces, voice acting and it was so well done that you really did care about each of the characters “war stories” the campaign was met with huge praise from fans and gaming publications.

Multiplayer in Battlefield 1 is awesome with 64 player battles, a ton of different classes based on infantry, vehicle, and elite. Many of the popular game modes from past Battlefield games would return, but Dice also had some new surprises. Frontlines is a lot of fun where you wage war to take control of five different points of the map. War Pigeons saw you fight over a messenger pigeon that has sensitive intel that could be devastating if it falls into the wrong hands! In all Dice made sure that there was a mode for everyone in Battlefield 1 and we think they did a good job in keeping the classic modes while adding fun new ones.

Battlefield 1 was a huge success, it sold phenomenally well and was praised by critics and gamers alike.

The History Of Battlefield Part 13 Battlefield Hardline
The History Of Battlefield Part 13: Battlefield Hardline

Battlefield is one of the best first person shooters on the market and our modded PS4 controllers, modded Xbox One controllers and modded PC controllers can make you even more powerful!

Battlefield Hardline (2015) PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

In 2015, EA let Visceral Visions have a crack at Battlefield as they released this spin off game, Battlefield Hardline.

What really makes Battlefield Hardline stand out from the rest of the series is the setting. Battlefield has always been about war, but Hardline is about the war on the streets where you are trying to stop all kinds of crime from murder to drugs! It was a massive departure for the series and one many people had mixed feelings on. The story was one you either loved or hated, playing as Nick Mendoza you want to rid Miami of crime and you do this by taking on a series of hard hitting, off the books kind of cases.

As far as multiplayer goes, Visceral Visions really changed things up offering many new modes like Crosshair, Heist, Blood Money, Rescue, and Hotwire. Multiplayer was very well received and Visceral Visions did a great job making each mode feel unique and special. For example, Crosshair was a 5 vs 5 mode where you only have one life and you either have to kill a witness the cops are trying to protect or by protecting the witness. Blood Money saw each side trying to get money from the middle of the map and get it back to their own area. You can even steal from each other! Each mode was a lot of fun and as a result, many people had a great time with Battlefield Hardline.

Despite only being a few years old, Battlefield Hardline kind of came and went. This is a real shame as Visceral Visions did a great job and hopefully, this more street level take on Battlefield will return at some point.

WAR Mode Is Just What Call Of Duty Needed!
WAR Mode Is Just What Call Of Duty Needed!

One of the most impressive aspects of the Call Of Duty WWII beta on PlayStation 4 this past weekend was WAR mode. Activision has been really hyping his mode up and from what we played this weekend, the hype is justified. It makes multiplayer so much more fun and it actually has a kind of Overwatch feel to it in the way it is designed.

So in WAR mode, you are put on either Axis or Allies. It is random, but after a battle, you switch sides. Now you can run around just killing people, but the idea of this mode is that there are different sections and each section has an objective that you need to complete. Depending on what side you are on will depend on what you need to do.

For example, the Allies need to build a bridge, whereas the Axis need to stop it from happening. This part of the game is so much fun and it really does pump you up. You will have to either escort a tank or push it back. It really does feel like Overwatch and that is not a bad thing at all.

WAR mode really does require you to work as a team as certain parts, the bridge, for example, are impossible if you are not all on the same page as while you are building it, you will just be picked off time and time again unless you have a couple of players watching your back.

There was only one map in the beta, but we really are super excited to try out more when Call Of Duty WWII is released. If you have been looking for a reason to once again get into or even excited about Call Of Duty again, WAR mode is it!

Our modded PS4 controllers, modded Xbox One controllers and modded PC controllers! are just what you need to make sure you are ready for WAR mode in Call Of Duty WWII!

Call Of Duty WWII PlayStation 4 Beta Thoughts
Call Of Duty WWII PlayStation 4 Beta Thoughts

We just wanted to share our thoughts on the first Call Of Duty WWII beta that happened on PlayStation 4 this weekend.

We want to just talk about the overall feel of the game here and our experiences with it. We played a lot of team Deathmatch and it was what you would expect from a Call Of Duty game. We do not mean that as a complaint! The controls were nice and tight and in general, it offered the run and gun style gameplay that you would expect from a Call Of Duty game.

A big deal was made of the class system for Call Of Duty WWII and while we gave each class a good playing with, Airborne was the one that got most play time. It had a more “Call Of Duty” feel to it and if you want to ease into WWII’s multiplayer and not feel overwhelmed this would be a great way to do it.

One thing that has to be given special attention to is the presentation. Sledgehammer Games have done an awesome job and no matter if you are in a snowy village, in the trenches or even on the sunny war torn Gibraltar the game was just pure eye candy. We played it on a standard PS4, so we are very interested to see who good it is going to look on a PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and of course a high end PC.

We are looking forward to the next beta and can tell you hand on heart that we are more excited for Call Of Duty WWII now that we have actually played it.

If you want to give yourself an edge before WWII is released check out our modded PS4 controllers, modded Xbox One controllers and modded PC controllers!

The History Of Battlefield Part 12 Battlefield 4
The History Of Battlefield Part 12: Battlefield 4

Now we are moving into PS4 and Xbox One territory so you know that our modded PS4 controllers, modded Xbox One controllers and modded PC controllers are going to give you a big advantage over this game!

Battlefield 4 (2013) PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

Battlefield 4 was the first game in the series to be made with the Frostbite engine and it was also the first game in the series to make the way onto PS4 and Xbox, making this the most mass released game in the series.

Once again Dice tried to give us an epic single and multiplayer experience, but for many Battlefield 4’s single player campaigns fell a little flat. They tried to give it an open world kind of feel, but for many people, it just did not work.

Do not worry though as Battlefield 4 has one of the most epic selections of multiplayer modes in the series to date. Dice brought back Commander Mode which was something many people were happy to see. The battles felt more epic than ever before and the vehicles and weapons just had an extra kick to them which made things more intense.

By moving to the Frostbite engine, Dice were really able to cut loose and make some huge levels. Not only that by destroying certain things on a map, players could alter the layout of a level which was a lot of fun to do. In addition to making the environments more destructible, Frostbite also allowed them to make the game look better than ever before.

Players could play as one of three factions, USA, China, and Russia, what was really cool was that thanks to the power of the PS4 and Xbox One, console players could not have 64 player battles.

EA and Dice heavily supported Battlefield 4 with a ton of multiplayer DLC, most of which was very well received by the fans.

The History Of Battlefield Part 11 Battlefield 3
The History Of Battlefield Part 11: Battlefield 3

In our history of Battlefield series today we are looking at a game that our modded PS4 controllers, modded Xbox One controllers and modded PC controllers are tailor made for!

Battlefield 3 (2011) PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC

To say that Battlefield 3 was a huge hit is a massive understatement. You could argue that it was Dice’s Battlefield 3 that showed that this was a game that could go head to head with Call Of Duty. People were rabid with anticipation for Battlefield 3 and it is said that there were over 3 million pre orders for the game.

The story was actually a ton of fun and it was told mainly through a series of flashbacks. Dice created a fictional War of 2014 that saw you go to such locations as Iran, Iraq, Paris and New York it was really well made and most people gave Dice a lot of credit for putting so much effort into the campaign.

Multiplayer was once again huge, especially super huge on PC as it could handle 64 player battles. It featured military battles on a truly epic scale with lots of weapons, plenty of vehicles, many different classes and all kinds of game modes to play. Multiplayer is a huge reason as to why Battlefield 3 was one of the biggest games of 2011.

Dice supported the game heavily with DLC, players were offered a premium membership which for 50 bucks got them a ton more multiplayer maps and content and also saved them a lot of money in the process.

Battlefield 3 was and still is a very popular game and you can even pop on line today and have no trouble finding a game!
